Downtime Activity - Buying from the Merchant Princes

While the merchant princes are happy to sell the items over which they hold monopoly, doing so can be time consuming. Characters wishing to purchase goods from the merchant princes must spend 10 downtime days arranging a meeting, negotiating prices, and coordinating for impartial intermediaries to accept, transfer gold during the transaction. At the end of the ten days, you may make one purchase-- either a single permanent magic item, or up to their limit in other items (see, below). This downtime activity is available only to characters spending downtime during Tomb of Annihilation or Season 7 DDAL adventure sessions.

Ekene-Afa

Deals in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes

Ekene-Afa sells nonmagical weapons and shields of every kind, but most of her inventory consists of flint daggers, yklwas with wooden shafts and obsidian tips, and shields made of wooden frames with layers of reptile hide stretched over them. Ekene-Afa pays Wakanga O'tamu to place permanent enchantments on a select few of these items, which she sells at the prices listed in the Magic Shields and Weapons for Sale table.

This Merchant Prince has a small selection of magic items readily available for a modest price. These items can't be traded. The character may purchase a single item or no more than 10 pieces of +1 ammunition in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Buying Beasts. Ifan Talro’a employs dozens of merchants throughout Port Nyanzaru who not only serve as his spies but also sell domesticated beasts that can be used as companions, mounts, or pack animals. Flying snakes trained as messengers are popular with the Zhentarim, and Talro'a sells them to no one else.

Jessamine
Deals in plants, poison, and assassination

Jessamine trades in plants, herbs, poison, and sanctioned assassination. Murder is illegal in Port Nyanzaru, as it is almost everywhere, but Jessamine has a monopoly on “sanctions”—writs that allow a killing by ordained methods. Poison is her specialty, and she has a vast personal collection. She sells all the poisons listed in the Poisons table at market prices (in the Dungeon Master's Guide).

This soft-spoken Merchant Prince sells some of the most potent poisons in Faerûn. However, she is discriminating in her dealings. Characters may purchase no more than 2,000 gp worth of goods in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Wakanga O'tamu
Deals in magic and lore

Wakanga deals in knowledge, information, lost lore, potions, and scrolls. He knows of the death curse but little else about it. Wakanga has a monopoly on magic items in Port Nyanzaru, so characters either pay his prices or go without. As much as he wants to help, he’s unlikely to extend credit; all purchases must be in coin, gemstones, or jewelry.

This charismatic Merchant Prince sells potions and scrolls, but he frowns on those who might deny others the opportunity to enjoy his wares. Characters may purchase 750 gp worth of potions and scrolls in a single transaction before he refuses further the character service. The scrolls contain only spells found in the PHB.

It uses the stat block of a giant poisonous snake.
The serpent is a construct that understands and obeys whoever was holding the staff when it transformed.
It has immunity to poison damage and the poisoned condition. It doesn’t require air, food, drink, or sleep.
When it drops to 0 hit points, roll a d6. On a roll of 1, the snake turns to dust and is destroyed. On any other roll, it changes back into a staff and breaks into 1d4 + 1 pieces that must be magically mended before the staff can be used again.

While the merchant princes are happy to sell the items over which they hold monopoly, doing so can be time consuming. Characters wishing to purchase goods from the merchant princes must spend 10 downtime days arranging a meeting, negotiating prices, and coordinating for impartial intermediaries to accept, transfer gold during the transaction. At the end of the ten days, you may make one purchase-- either a single permanent magic item, or up to their limit in other items (see, below). This downtime activity is available only to characters spending downtime during Tomb of Annihilation or Season 7 DDAL adventure sessions.

Ekene-Afa

Deals in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes

Ekene-Afa sells nonmagical weapons and shields of every kind, but most of her inventory consists of flint daggers, yklwas with wooden shafts and obsidian tips, and shields made of wooden frames with layers of reptile hide stretched over them. Ekene-Afa pays Wakanga O'tamu to place permanent enchantments on a select few of these items, which she sells at the prices listed in the Magic Shields and Weapons for Sale table.

This Merchant Prince has a small selection of magic items readily available for a modest price. These items can't be traded. The character may purchase a single item or no more than 10 pieces of +1 ammunition in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Jessamine
Deals in plants, poison, and assassination

Jessamine trades in plants, herbs, poison, and sanctioned assassination. Murder is illegal in Port Nyanzaru, as it is almost everywhere, but Jessamine has a monopoly on “sanctions”—writs that allow a killing by ordained methods. Poison is her specialty, and she has a vast personal collection. She sells all the poisons listed in the Poisons table at market prices (in the Dungeon Master's Guide).

This soft-spoken Merchant Prince sells some of the most potent poisons in Faerûn. However, she is discriminating in her dealings. Characters may purchase no more than 2,000 gp worth of goods in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Wakanga O'tamu
Deals in magic and lore

Wakanga deals in knowledge, information, lost lore, potions, and scrolls. He knows of the death curse but little else about it. Wakanga has a monopoly on magic items in Port Nyanzaru, so characters either pay his prices or go without. As much as he wants to help, he’s unlikely to extend credit; all purchases must be in coin, gemstones, or jewelry.

This charismatic Merchant Prince sells potions and scrolls, but he frowns on those who might deny others the opportunity to enjoy his wares. Characters may purchase 750 gp worth of potions and scrolls in a single transaction before he refuses further the character service. The scrolls contain only spells found in the PHB.

Downtime Activity - Buying from the Merchant Princes

While the merchant princes are happy to sell the items over which they hold monopoly, doing so can be time consuming. Characters wishing to purchase goods from the merchant princes must spend 10 downtime days arranging a meeting, negotiating prices, and coordinating for impartial intermediaries to accept, transfer gold during the transaction. At the end of the ten days, you may make one purchase-- either a single permanent magic item, or up to their limit in other items (see, below). This downtime activity is available only to characters spending downtime during Tomb of Annihilation or Season 7 DDAL adventure sessions.

Ekene-Afa

Deals in weapons, shields, traveling gear, rain catchers, saddles, wagons, and canoes

Ekene-Afa sells nonmagical weapons and shields of every kind, but most of her inventory consists of flint daggers, yklwas with wooden shafts and obsidian tips, and shields made of wooden frames with layers of reptile hide stretched over them. Ekene-Afa pays Wakanga O'tamu to place permanent enchantments on a select few of these items, which she sells at the prices listed in the Magic Shields and Weapons for Sale table.

This Merchant Prince has a small selection of magic items readily available for a modest price. These items can't be traded. The character may purchase a single item or no more than 10 pieces of +1 ammunition in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Buying Beasts. Ifan Talro’a employs dozens of merchants throughout Port Nyanzaru who not only serve as his spies but also sell domesticated beasts that can be used as companions, mounts, or pack animals. Flying snakes trained as messengers are popular with the Zhentarim, and Talro'a sells them to no one else.

Jessamine
Deals in plants, poison, and assassination

Jessamine trades in plants, herbs, poison, and sanctioned assassination. Murder is illegal in Port Nyanzaru, as it is almost everywhere, but Jessamine has a monopoly on “sanctions”—writs that allow a killing by ordained methods. Poison is her specialty, and she has a vast personal collection. She sells all the poisons listed in the Poisons table at market prices (in the Dungeon Master's Guide).

This soft-spoken Merchant Prince sells some of the most potent poisons in Faerûn. However, she is discriminating in her dealings. Characters may purchase no more than 2,000 gp worth of goods in a single transaction before she refuses the character further service.

Wakanga O'tamu
Deals in magic and lore

Wakanga deals in knowledge, information, lost lore, potions, and scrolls. He knows of the death curse but little else about it. Wakanga has a monopoly on magic items in Port Nyanzaru, so characters either pay his prices or go without. As much as he wants to help, he’s unlikely to extend credit; all purchases must be in coin, gemstones, or jewelry.

This charismatic Merchant Prince sells potions and scrolls, but he frowns on those who might deny others the opportunity to enjoy his wares. Characters may purchase 750 gp worth of potions and scrolls in a single transaction before he refuses further the character service. The scrolls contain only spells found in the PHB.

Jade Serpent Staff: (Varity unknown)
It uses the stat block of a giant poisonous snake.
The serpent is a construct that understands and obeys whoever was holding the staff when it transformed.
It has immunity to poison damage and the poisoned condition. It doesn’t require air, food, drink, or sleep.
When it drops to 0 hit points, roll a d6. On a roll of 1, the snake turns to dust and is destroyed. On any other roll, it changes back into a staff and breaks into 1d4 + 1 pieces that must be magically mended before the staff can be used again.
