Kurai is contacted by Dara, who is ready to begin her final push to recover the last of the Bloody Hooves Hellriders and needs all allies she can find. We infiltrate the 422nd layer of the Abyss, finding the soul of the commander, but having to face Yeenoghu and Crackfang with waves of their minions in the defense of Dara and her desperate work. Kurai joins the heroes and the Bloody Hooves Hellriders to push back the Abyss' push against the forces of Avernus. All of his magic spent, it is only a Planar Shift from Dara that saves the heroes from the surviving legions of devils. The balance of the Blood War is maintained... and Kurai never wants to return to Avernus again.

To fulfill their end of the bargain, the characters dammed the flow of the River Styx where it spills into a nearby slime-filled chasm (see “Pit of Shummrath”). For fulfilling their side of the bargain, Rigorath grants them rare knowledge: a secret they desire and a permanent +1 increase to each character’s Intelligence or Wisdom score.

Both parents were present at my hatching in Ahoyhoy. That’s not common for a Tortle. No siblings. That’s pretty rare too. They raised me away from the Snout and I learned to adapt to Chult. I’ve seen what happens when the monsters come out of the dark. Now I’m the first line of defense.

I did save a man once. He was like, “That skeleton was going to kill me! I think I owe a life debt.” I was like “That’s cool, man. Don’t worry...” but yeah, still got this totes cool human academic named Davkas the Adept following me around and writing stuff I say down. It’s fine, I guess.
