While at The Yawning Portal to buy and sell spellbooks with a Chultan dealer, I met Danifae Melarn, a grenadier of Bregan D'arthe. She bartered my ancient Zhentarim shield for a staff she claimed to have found in the pincers of a human archmage who had purportedly been warped into an insectoid aberration by the Far Realm. It's actually plausible as the provenances of magic items go, and it does seem to be very powerful.
I will throughouly study the staff to make sure it has no lingering traces of the Far Realm tied to it.
