*+150gp from starting Equipment, +4gp & potion of healing from XGtE * *-146gp, Purchased Studded leather, Fine clothes, 2 daggers, whip, shortbow, 20 arrows, burglar's pack, thieves tools, and string (Modified Starting equipment)* ##### XGtE's This is Your Life I was born in Hulburg, I'm told, but we moved to Zhentil Keep when I was just a lad. Moved "to be closer to family," they said, but after we got to the keep, Da took some travelling work and didn't come back. After a year or so, my ma started telling folks our family name were "Darkhope," like the famous Zhent general. A ruse to help her seven kids get ahead with family folks. Worked well enough until we could make our own reputations. Seven kids and no husband meant my two older brothers and me helped ma provide for my younger brother and the three small girls. We had a tiny house down the alley from the Tavern where ma was a cook. Strictly downstairs work, mind you. Even in a town run by a crime network, there was still opportunities for a bored lad to get into mischief and we found money and food where we could. We didn't realize we were being watched, trained, and tested all along. We started planning our capers with Diggory and Rybeck, a couple local boys who got caught trying to steal a cart full of turnips. We were in a jam, but someone made sure we were released. The next day, a pair of adventurers, (41 ) Himo Caerdonel (NE elven rogue) and (44) Anbera Silveraxe (NG shield dwarf paladin) spoke to our ma and then introduced themselves as our new instructors. We'd been stongly encouraged to volunteer with a company of Zhent mercenaries they were leading. 87 They trained us, sure. Skirmishes, but only one you'd call a battle. I took a few wounds, but nothing that didn't heal. (8) Rybeck wasn't so lucky. Got a crossbow bolt in the chest from one of the other lads who panicked. The Great Leveler don't care if your death is fair or honorable; you're still back to the mud. Resurrections ain't for common folk. 54 After that, I took some low level assignments for the network. Did what needed doing. I kept 4 gold and gave the rest to ma for the young ones to have a modest dowry. 13 Boon - A friendly alchemist gifted me a potion of healing in thanks for running off a non-zhent gang that was running protection rackets in Scardale Town.
