Starting Wealth (10g), This is your life, (18gp) XGE's This is Your Life Born in Menzoberranzan to House Melarn. Matron mother only had two children (a boy & girl set of twins) by Danifae’s father (a cartographer that was attempting to map the Upperdark) before he was torn apart by a hook horror in the tunnels... conveniently just a few days before Matron Melarn took her position upon her mother’s death (apparent suicide). As a child, others saw my twin & I as different. We had few other friends. As we grew, we learned the requirements of our deadly society. My devotion to my people—and to Selvetarm, Dark Seldarine god of war—lifted me in combat, making me powerful and dangerous. In my first century of life, there were 11 influential events. 36 I made an enemy of a svirfneblin Sorcerer, though I was blameless in the affair. I left him alive, but grievously injured, as a warning to others who would make a similar attempt. 87 In my first true House war, I was (1) knocked out and left for dead. I awoke hours later and still do not remember the battle. 93 While on a hunting party, we frizzed a zone of faezeress, and found ourselves brief sojourners in the Feywild 63&55 While regaining Matron Mother’s favor after my blunders, I spent two years training. I still have the 18 gp I earned as a youth. 50 I befriended a captured adventurer, a Dragonborn cleric that was sold to us as a slave. His stories of the surface confused me. 25 It was in my 60th year when I fell in love with a friendly soldier of another house. Nothing became of it. 16 It was about this time that my father died. My brother was bequeathed most of his weapons and armor, but I did receive a single [simple weapon. ] 07 Tragedy befell our House when my aunt was killed in battle and my mother grew angry lashing out at all of us. 02 My relationship ended. Matron Mother did not approve of how the match would appear to the council. She said the loss of her mother and my aunt in a decade left our house too poorly positioned for such an arrangement. 07 He did not take the news well. He disappeared without a trace... I cannot prove it was my mother’s doing. It was in my 111th year that I was afflicted with the “Blessing of Corellon.” The surface elves may revel in any who can alter their gender like their god, but I found it terrifying. I fled to Bregan d’Aerthe and Jarlaxle told me my reputation was lost amongst the council. I’ve worked for him for 12 years now.

Assigned to guard duty for Junior, JB's experiment? Kid? Golem creature? Who knows what the hell D-Con actually counts as. Beats me, but Parts is a member of Bregan d'Arthe, so he's okay. Good spellslinger and handy in a fight. He wanted to go meet a contact for a bottle or two of Zzarr down at the Yawning Portal Inn and I didn't mind that. But then he goes and promises some folks—that he just met!—that he'd venture into Undermountain with them. Couple might know what they're doing, like the archer and the genasi. The tiefling is completely wet behind the ears. I mean, this is not too inconvenient since I had a contact I needed to check on in Skullport, but I was expecting 8 easy and boring hours of drinking ale. Messing around in an insane arch-wizard's tower? That's dumb, and worse if that insane arch-mage is Halaster Blackcloak. Anyway, I paid our money to Durnan, the Yawning Portal's owner. Like you haven't heard of him. You better believe I used my expense account! ...so our strange crew was lowered in a big tub on ropes and pulleys to the first level of Undermountain. First thing down there, one of them found a one-way secret door to the north side and left an unscouted passage behind us. This is going to get bad. Then Parts the wonder-boy falls through a door when trying to open it with his Thieves Tools. A door with stacks of plates on the other side. The racket is an alarm and within a minute, there's a doppleganger and some human bandits running around in cast off vampire spawn clothing. Not very convincing and they all died pretty fast, but a nuisance all the same. Pulled a few usable items off of them, but no real treasure. How's Parts follow up with an encore? Decides to sit down in an ancient alabaster throne carved like snakes and gets poisoned half to death. I was thinking this was going to be a looong night, but I might have just been pulled into active dungeoneering duty for a few days or a week.

The Logging Camp
Adventure Logsheet
This place is a maze and I feel like we definitely have been through this room once already. I'm going to have to map this out. Spent a lot of time killing things that I thought we'd killed before, but maybe there's just a LOT of them.
We find mirrors that make shadow copies of our party members. A brief struggle disables the nasty contraptions. Exploring the corridors, we eliminate two or three dozen goblins and bugbears, then track down a party that had been charmed, knocking out the blackguard that held them entranced. The Thayan wizard ran through a portal, but we couldn't make it work. I'm sure that's not the last we've heard from them. We recovered a bronze mask shaped like the visage of Halaster Blackcloak. (50g) Keeping it with us in case it's useful later.
Cleared out bandits, bugbears, goblins, grells, a trio of brain puppies, and similar nuisance monsters. Personal effects indicate a number of the goblinoids were employed by the Xanathar. Recovered a passcode for a Xanathar Shield Guardian at the Stairs access to 2nd level. Passcode is "Sylgar." The name of his goldfish? Everyone knows that. D-Con and Dani allied our group with a revenant of Halleth Garke. Friar Garke was a 5th level priest of Waukeen, but was betrayed by a fairly amatuer adventuring party. Stole his holy symbol and weapons, broke his limbs, and pushed him into an abandoned well. Unprofessionally grisly, cruel, and left behind one very pissed off loose end. Halleth has been a huge help as rearguard, sentry, and protecting our flanks.
Adventure Logsheet
The group finishes a rest and moves deeper into the next caverns, where they discover swarms of kobolds, including some turned to vampire spawn. A long and tiring fight ensues. Vampire sapped my strength and stamina, leaving me gassed for the rest of the day. Halleth, Geran, and Aiden extracted me from some of the worst of it. Nasty close quarters scrap with undead. Surprised we took no casualties. Long Rest, Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[64]]. Dani remains Female
So. many. kobolds. How do they all fit in such tiny rooms. It's like they never end. We finished camping 3 hours ago and we already are headed back to fortify and sleep. Didn't even find any coin or salvage. Definitely not our best day.
It's your standard evening of dungeoneering. a half dozen gricks, Halleth the Revenant killed one of the guys that killed him, carved up a flesh golem and bandits and a chopped down an animated statue of a sauhagin holding a box with a withered heart just before acid fell from the ceiling and melted it. That's all standard stuff right? Oh and D-Con decided to sit in every throne or chair he saw. One dropped a magic wand on his head. Another dropped like 100 skulls into the room. Couple others were just old chairs. He got crossways with some kind of bad juju elder rune, but was able to decurse himself like right away. I guess the rune should've been a "Keep out" sign cause there are three hungry manticores sitting on the other side. Sheesh. On the bright side, we did find a couple handfuls of coin, a half dozen semi-precious gemstones, and some disguise kits that are in resale condition. It's not a vast fortune, but it will pay rent!
Adventure Logsheet
Destroyed the nests of three Manticores, the Troll used to feed them, and uncovered a lot of dead adventurers. 11 of them got stoned by a basilisk, so we sent a map and word with a Tormite priest to find them some help. Took a bath and a good night's sleep in the Yawning Portal before we moved to the second level. Second level so far was a shady goblin market for "found items" that fell off of a cart. It's run by Yek the Tall, a goblin that used a magic doodad to turn himself human. Yek's a bully; rules with bugbear hired muscle and fear. I don't like him, but he's not a fan of the Xanathar and he's neutral to Bregan d'Arthe. Might be a good place to unload found items. I'll include this intelligence in my report to the Bregan d'Arthe intelligence officer. Halleth says we're getting closer to the adventurers that murdered him and threw him in that pit. That is going to be an interesting conversation based on that pulverizing Hal gave that worm on the 1st level. Note to Self: mind the splash zone next time. Sold a lot of our salvage at market. Purchased a poisoner's kit (-50g), vial of alchemist's fire (-50g) (troll repellent), and most of a burglar's pack (-11g) to expand our denied entry and countermeasure options. Worst case, I can use the ball bearings for shot in the company-issued handgonne. Similar calibre. I think. Long Rest, Blessing of Corellon d100= [[97]] Dani remains female
The crew dented and broke up some flying cutlery & cookware in an abandoned kitchen, raided a wizard's bedchamber for some blank books, and then—following Halleth's lead toward one of the 4 "Fine Fellows of Daggerford" adventurers that murdered him on the floor above—cleared out a slavery operation run by Yek the Tall, saving 8 humans and half-elves. D-Con removed Yek's Circlet of Human Perfection, revealing that Yek was actually a goblin. The treacherous miscreant had lied to us about keeping slaves. I stove his head nearly in with the haft of my axe and left him to the bugbear's entertainment for justice. We do not abide depriving peacable humanoids of their right to be free. The freed men and women were healed and fed (wish I could cast goodberry), then escorted back to the lift up to the Yawning Portal. We're keeping the priesthood that patronizes the place quite busy with basilisk-victim depetrifying and fattening up starved slaves and the like. The adventurer Copper Stormforge (NE male shield dwarf scout), formerly of the Fine Fellows of Daggerford did not fare as well and perished while in the torture devices of Yek the Tall. Technically. Cause of death: pissed-off revenant's holy justice. Our ecletic crew continued to explore the Arcane Chambers of the second level, finding a lot of trash, but also a mage named Rizzeryl (NE drow mage, male and of no house.) & quasit familiar (that I split in twain like all demons should be), a pack of wererats (don't look at me, I want'd to put them all down. 'Twas Geran that insisted on removing the curse on the trio caught in his hypnotic pattern.), but also some half dozen rust monsters, and a zombified beholder.
We secured the drow mage and 3 wererats, setting Phash to watch them. D-con squared her away, then tucked away the mage's spellbook. Hallath was still pacing, frantic in his desire to cross the hall, but unable to pass Aidan in giant constrictor snake form. Once ready and we'd removed the magic wards on the door across the hall, we moved in to find nothics. We started with cleaning them up, then a trio of awful things that Hallath called gibbering mouthers. Around the corner, four more nothics and a daemon called a mezzoloth were torturing a human named Rex the Hammer. Rex had the grave misfortune of being cornered by a daemon, and the worser misfortune of being the evil idiot that broke Hallath's legs before throwing him into that pit. Aidan cast heat metal on the mezzoloth's trident, hampering it from torturing Rex, but Hallath did his fist of vengeance thing and killed the 3rd "Fine" fellow of Daggerford. "Aiden beats trident. Revenant obliterates Rex." Sounds like rules for a card game. A fun one. Geran seems to be getting more and more bothered by Halleth's "effectiveness" in his justice. I'm hoping our former-acolyte can locate and wrap up his business with the last of his killers quickly, move on to his peace and rest with Waukeen, and Geran will let the matter rest too. Don't get me wrong. Geran is really growing on me. I got no issues with his bow-work, his lock-work, or his stories; he's just, well... more of a rule follower than the rest of us. I'm not wild about dragging every jaywalker or litterer back up to the Yawning Portal so they can get a jury trial in a year or whatever. That's a lot of talking and paper justice. It doesn't do anything. Revenant justice seems to be as direct as Drow justice and as thorough. I've come to respect Hallath and will miss him. He's a decent sort with more integrity than a lot of folks. More dedicated to the Lady of Trade than most folks are to their pantheons, too. Oh, my. I've written all of this and didn't even talk about the otyughs in the privy or the time Aiden theew a fireball. That was... a situation, alright. Shame I ran out of room on this page and can't give all the shitty details what a pity
Adventure Logsheet
Hallath was patient while we rested a bit after the debacle in the privvies. He was really trying. The pacing was steady the whole time we were bandaging up, rehydrating, etc. Then he was off at a quick jog, trying to work us back through the tunnels to find a way northeast of Rex's room. We found where the fourth target was holed up. Hallath had told us she was a priestess of Shar.. we didn't know that she'd hired a drow assassin, a dwarven tough, and a blackguard paladin of Shar. It was a tough fight working through and the drow assassin's poisons dropped Danifae for a few seconds, but Aidan pulled her back up and they finished the fight. Halleth completed his task of vengeance as the priestess died and he reclaimed his holy symbol of Waukeen. His vengeance completed, Hallath faded into dust. Aidan & Dani collected his ashes into a phial to be returned to the Church of Waukeen. Long Rest, Blessing of Corellon = [[78]] Dani remains Female
The party regrouped with D-con & Phash, offloaded some of their loot at the goblin market, then began to explore further. We found and slew a gargantuan gelatinous cube, discovered a decomposed wizard's apprentice in a room filled with 20,000 gallons of water (and recovered his glass wand arcane focus, which sold for 25g.) Just above that room we then discovered the headquarters for a group of Xanathar's toughs lead by Shunn Shurruth (a LE male drow cursed with the eyes of an arachnid.) Shunn, Dani & D-con parleyed, agreed no quarrel is needed and Shunn offered us a finder's fee of 50gp each if we recover and bring him a stone key from some wererats that stole it from him. Moving through the tunnels, we came on a tunnel with more gricks, another grick alpha, a pair of carrion crawlers, and flesh golems. Beyond it lay an altar to Dumathoin, the dwarven god of secrets and mining and in the chamber beyond that one was a library occupied by 4 more flesh golems and a flameskull.
The battle with the gricks and the flesh golem continued through a rough curving tunnel. On the other side I disovered a laboratory with all kinds of tubes full of lightning and a floor of copper. Sooty copper after D-con heard my warning that there was another half dozen flesh golems over there. He sure does have a gift with fireball. Practice, mostly. The lab was under the control of a floating flameskull, too, but this one threw lightning bolts instead of fireballs. D-Con assures me this is very unique. We burned and slaughtered the flesh golems, but the flameskull retreated through a door. Once I slaughtered the last of the big fleshy jerks between me and the door, I find it's arcane locked. * grr. RAGE. * Geran did a masterful job of opening the door, where we found 13 large barrels of embalming fluids, all with ghouls climbing from them, slavering and staring at us. Ghouls are just so gross and unneccesary. But get this, with them is a 12 foot tall stone golemstatue lumbering toward us to protect the damn ligntning-flame-skull... who immediately tried to electrocute me with a lightning bolt. D-con read the damn thing's diary or whatever looking for new spells. He said the rude bitch skull is what's left of a Halaster Apprentice called Trenzia. Trenzia is a sucky, awful remains of a person and she should go bother someone else. We cleaned up the ghouls fast. (fireball + embalming fluid makes a big boom) and then hacked, chiseled and cracked away at the golemstatue trying to pulverize TenK. ... 10K. Then'kai? I don't even know what language his name is in, much less how to spell it. Point is, by the time we had won free of the room of ghouls and golems, the skull had vanished and we could find no trace her. In our search, we did discover a trio of wights that beat the unholy night out of me. That sucked way worse than the fleshy guys or the stone statue guy, but Aidan was patching me up and keeping me on my feet while we drove back the undead scourge. I still think it would be very helpful to have a not-a-revenant-cleric or paladin around in times like those. After I got smashed by the wights, we found that room had some quality veins of copper. Made notes on the map. Will sell some copies to the dwarves for a good bit of coin. We headed back up to resupply at the market and rest overnight. Goblins are turning that place into a semi-respectable hub and their prices are at a much lower markup than Durnan. I like Durnan, but he knows what he's got and he prices like it. Looking for the path down to Level 3 and skullport, we found a dead hafling adventurer that got stuck in an armoire in an old bedroom. Poor guy. Found the rest of the giant spider colony he was running from too. We were too late to save any of the humanoids the arachnids had taken, but we did a pretty good job with our pest extermination. The only unexplored dead end on my map of Level 2 is that room with the undead, zombie beholder that Aiden discovered, so I guess that's about to be a thing. Oh, joy. Long Rest, Blessing of Corellon d100=[[53]], Dani remains female. Danifae's share of found wealth (+47.6g), purchased the found silvered dagger (-102g)
Adventure Logsheet
More mop up duty. A room with a cold rune and nothing else within. Put down a zombified beholder and a Xanathar Guild-run pit fighting ring. They didn't have two coppers on the lot of them. Guess they were betting for chores. A hallway full of petrified statues, one of which was a damn mind flayer and D-Con went and woke it up. It messed with my head something awful, but never got close enough to really do more than give me the nastiest stun I've had in ages. A bunch of other unfortunate souls were reverted back from stone. Some goats, a wererat, two Bregan D'arthe junior operatives. So green behind the ears they were still carrying their equipment from Menzobarrenzan. Oh also restored a pretty tough lizardman and an orc warband leader that looked like he knew the score. We got them back to the Yawning Portal and connected with folks from around the city that could help get them home. Did you know there's four or five orc or half-orcish shaman in Waterdeep? There are even some merchants that have frequent trade with the lizardfolk from up near the Saltmarshes. This city is full of interesting characters. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100=[[17]] Dani wakes up Male.
This dungeon system gets weirder and wierder. Started in a long hallway with the "forcible disassembly" of two animated ballista. They were there to guard [[INFORMATION REDACTED.]] The logistics for the supply line and the contracts on the distribution will take time to arrange, but the benefits are obvious. We also found a pack (flock?) of owlbears (they tried to eat us), a magic potted plant (it didn't do very much), dragon bones (they didn't do anything at all), and a boring library because the only book that hadn't fallen to scraps was a spellbook. There were some funerary urns and, whatever D-Con does to see magic, he spotted one of them glowing. Had a pouch of magic dust. He says it's only enough for one use. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[53]]. Dani wakes up Female.
Tahn'kai found his way back to the surface and took off. Where to, he didn't say. No note or anything. On our way to the stairs to the third level, we came across a fellow in a different armor design. Glowing blue lights on this one. Calls himself Gizmo. No magic spears for this guy; he shoots lightning out of his hands. Maybe I should put these reports in a book called "That's Not Something I've Seen Before." Volo's probably already used that title. As for the third level, the first three rooms were an unremarkable catacomb, some tunnels, and a dead end with some rot trolls and a pack of grick with a grick alpha. I mean I'd never seen leperous trolls that spread disease, but I'm not a troll doctor either. A little further in, we found and took down a room of quaggoth and a quaggoth thonot, which is some kind of psionic quaggoth? He had a few nifty tricks, but D-Con figured him out just in time. The new guy—Gizmo—was holding rear guard with Phash and signalled something was moving in the tunnels to his southeast. Turns out it was a draegloth. It was fast, mean, big as an ogre, with four arms and a lot of legs. Talk about your Underdark horror stories that I would've been happier thinking were just made up. All the benefits of a daemon, lots of the benefits of drow, and they do not go down without a real fight. We got one killed before the other two could close the distance, but it takes some doing to put a pair of them down.
Adventure Logsheet
Close combat with several drider, a number of phase spiders, and a whole hallway of quaggoth. Nothing of note to report.
Discovered a dozen or so Drow all of one House (House symbol not identified yet) had desecrated a temple to Dumathoin and using it as a temple to the Spider Queen. This was obviously the source of all of the driders and who the quaggoths and phase spiders were protecting. The priestess, mage, and house captain evacuated via teleportation magic, but we cleared the rest of them, including the yochlol she summoned. After resting we searched the nearby areas, finding a vein of pyrite along with some chunks of ore in one of the Quaggoth rooms and the house drow elites had some weapons in good enough condition for resale. We unfortunately also found 4 prisoners who were likely killed in their cells while we were in the combat in the next room. We did find Myra Moonshadow, a sun elf wizard locked in another room, but uninjured. She seems a little too interested in the ancient history of the drow's flight into the Underdark. Geran and Aidan are unnerved by her. I'll stay wary too. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[43]]. Dani wakes up male.
We cleared out a House Auvrandyr torture center / pleasure room adjacent to where the priestess was performing her sacrifices, taking two females of House Auvrandyr prisoner. Their gear is forfeit as is those of their family and warriors that we killed. Both women gave us information to secure their safe-conduct to Skullport and being ransomed rather than executed. We learned that there is a sea hag coven on this level and that House A intends to invade Skullport. We'll need to reduce their forces further to prevent the attack giving Bregan d'Arthe a fourth front to fight on in Skullport. Moving on, we then cleared Driders from a hallway, one who dropped Dani into unconciousness for a few seconds. They hit hard. Where this tunnel intersects the river, we found a puzzle scratched into the rock. It indicates if we walk up the Saurgath River, we can find pirate treasure, but downstream is Skullport. Heading northeast, we have discovered a small tunnel where a ritual summoning was performed. Several Barlgura guard the treasure. We moved in to engage them.
Adventure Logsheet
One of the more interesting evenings we had on the first few levels of Undermountain. Geran's Hypnotic Pattern put 3 of 5 Barlguras into a stupor, allowing us to focus on one of the demons and destroy them without taking much in the way of injuries. In a chest that was rigged up and hidden in the ceiling, we found a modest treasure in coin and valuables hidden by the pirate captain the riddle downstream mentioned. The Captain was a mouldering skeleton, so we're going to keep an eye on his legacy for him. Down stream, we discovered a coven of Sea Hags. All three were civil, even if they did not extend the gifts of Hospitality, but we shortly learned that they had been predictably deceptive in their true answers. They had not eaten a humanoid in quite some time as they'd sworn, but we did find a young lad of about twelve, Devlin Stormshore, chained up in a room they obviously used as a larder. There was a nasty, foul-mouthed and poorly-mannered little goblin there. I didn't catch his name, because he resumed hurling verbal abuse and casual cruelty at the lad Devlin and Aidan of all people executed the mean little creature on the spot. Imolated him while the little bastard was manacled to the wall. I didn't know he had it in him. The hags came rushing in behind with their pet giant crab familiars, obviously intent on preventing our emancipating the boy. Another Fantastically timed Hypnotic Pattern from Geran and we were able to destroy them one at a time with great ease. They'd amassed another modest collection of treasure, though guarded by the figurehead of a ship that screamed bloody murder at us for taking it. The coins and gems seem just fine. Gained 1 potion of water breathing Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[37]]. Dani wakes up male.
After the evening's rest in the secured cove of the late sea hag coven, we embarked down the River Sargauth towards Skullport. Some avaricious ghosts of treasure hunters swarmed us, which was not an issue until one of them possessesd D-con temporarily. That was a bit more hassle. In the chaos, the sun elf mage Marta Moonshadow ran off. Based on the three House Auvrandyr drow guards we found looking to ambush us where she left the river, we can only assume she is now with them. We took two of those guards prisoner and will add them to those we plan to turn over to Bregan d'Arthe's lieutenants. Aidan began to follow the trail of prints the Auvrandyr pair and the mage left, which brought us into the southern edge of the space where Auvrandyr has begun mustering troops for the invasion of Skullport. Marta was walking under her own power, but it's unclear if she was a spy, captive, or both. We've cleared a half dozen giant spiders set as sentries and exterminated two handfuls of troglodytes stationed to lie in wait. Danifae is covering D-con's flanks from Trogs and spiders while he used Haste and a Steel Wind Strike to cut down two squads of Auvrandyr troops in seconds. He is efficient when he is determined. The patrol's officer is a bit tougher, but still didn't last a core of seconds in a duel.
The crew pushes in to cut down the Auvrandyr drow priestess of the spider queen, slaying several of her drow retainers and capturing the house captain of her guard in the process. Dani thought leaving the traitorous Marta Moonshadow caged was no bother to Dani, but Geran and the others insisted on trussing her up and taking her with the other prisoners. While clearing the remainder of the abandoned dwarven buildings where Auvrandyr had made camp for the invasion of Skullport, we discovered a strange room with some kind of magic fish on the wall. Geran solved the puzzle and collected a Elemental gem (emerald / water). In yet another building, we freed a captured drider (who has happily joined us since we have already accepted Norreed into our company) and a drow cook named Rizryn. Now that he is houseless (and seeing his two compatriots die quickly when they attacked D-Con), the cook decided signing on with Bregan D'arthe sounded like a great idea. Bringing our coterie of followers and prisoners of war, we continued water walking down the Sargauth River, courtesy of Aiden's ritual magic, when we discovered three middle-sized ships full of Zhentarim Thugs and Zhentarim Martial Arts Adepts attacking Skull Island, a section of Skullport held by the Xanathar's Guild's Thugs. Enemy of our Enemy and all, we chose to take down the ships rather than allow the Xanathar's Guild a stronger presence in the town. At last count, one boat was burning within a wall of flame, another had begun to spew keelboats full of Zhent thugs to attack us, with some faerie fired and others incapacitated from Geran's hypnotic pattern, while a trio of other thugs were dealing with Aiden in Giant Octopus wild shape. Things are not looking good for the Zhent's assault, despite one ship's worth of keelboats landing on the shore and readying to assault the fortress wall. Gained 1 potion of healing
Adventure Logsheet
Approaching Skullport, the party encounters an invasion by Zhentarim thugs and martial artists against Skull Island, the harbor defenses of Skullport. Aided by Aidan & D-Con's waterwalking, we surprised the invaders, taking many of them hostage. They were turned over to Bregan d'Arthe aborad Jarlaxle's ship. After dropping off the prisoners of war and reconnecting the three bregan d'arthe members recovered to the garrison around SKullport, we resupplied and recuperated a short while before moving back into the caves. Purchased a Shield from the Bregan d'arthe armory. (-10g)
Cleaned out a chimera nest, recovering a small pile of coin. Encountered the posted guards of the hobgoblin Legion of Azrok. His captain and partner, Lurana, promised 1,000gp and free passage through their desmense if we hunt down duergar thieves of Clan Ironeye who stole Azrok's dagger of blindsight. They were last seen stopping in for resupply at a tavern called The Black Tankard before heading deeper into Undermountain. The next morning, the party shops at the "Gob Gobbler" the trading post for the Legion of Azrok. D-Con and Geran note that the proprieter, Kinrob, received a delivered parcel. Geran figured out that the bundle was an infant goblinoid. D-con and Aidan spirited the bundle away, but the shopkeeper noted the missing lunch parcel and confronted Geran & Dani as he shapechanges back into his true form as an oni! Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[82]]. Dani wakes up female.
The shopkeeper is an oni. What the hell? Thankfully, Geran decided to respond to this new threat by casting greater invisibility on Dani and then retreating to shoot from cover. Between D-Con's defensive magics and Dani being invisible, the oni never scored a wound on either of them before they destroyed it. Geran and Tigre talked our way out of the mess with the hobgoblin captain of the watch, who didn't take kindly to one of the bugbears feeding goblin children to an oni. As we began to hunt through lower Skullport looking for a trail to follow the IronEye clan and retrieve Azrok's dagger, we ended up in a tavern brawl with a deurgar and spectator that work for the fish (Xanathatr's guild) and as we emerged from the back door of the Black Tankard, we were accosted by a dozen Thayan warriors. We neutralized them and continued out of Skullport until we regrouped on the edge of town and prepped to descend to the 4th level.

Descending into the fourth level, we encounter a pair of ettin and a tunnel of piercers. We meet a mad human calling themselves The Alchemist. They offer us potions of their invention in exchange for materials gathered from elsewhere in Undermountain and a warning about drow posted to the east. The party avoids a conflict with a number of Xorn and close in on this remaining force from House Aruvyndar when we encounter a room with a half dozen ropers. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[09]]. Dani wakes up male.
Past the hallway of ropers, the party meets Darribeth Meltimer, a Chondathan mage. After a short discussion, it becomes clear she has been down here too long and has become a little bit mad, discussing everything with her toad. Aidan and DCon begin to suspect the toad familiar is not what it seems. DCon destroys the quasit-in-toad-shape with a burst of magic missiles. Though this traumatises the poor mage a bit, it does allow the party to convince her to return to the surface. A visit to the Hospice of St. Laupinn, a temple of Ilmater, and a donation from DCon provides a greater restoration for Danibeth, restoring her sanity. Dani sponsors Daribeth's coach fare back to Amphail to find her wife and Daribeth gifts Dani a rope of climbing in return. Returning to the caverns we prowl through until we are ambushed by a pair of House Aryvndar sentries and a number of quaggoth. The sentries make good use of their innate spells, but we win through, moving in to destroy the outpost on the other side. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[10]]. Dani wakes up male.

We continued to search the 4th level for a passage downward, but ultimately decided that the only way to proceed lower into Undermountain was the River Sargauth. WE found a couple toolsets in the possession of a trio of driders that we dispatched, but the rest of the day was a snooze.
The party came to learn that the fifth level of Undermountain is a druid's forest under the watch of Wyllow and is called the Wyllowood. The druid heirophant charged us with clearing a nearby cavern of a conclave of cloakers, ray-like aberrations from the UnderDark that Danni has significant experience fighting. We cleared out three of the nasty things from the nearby crystal cavern and Wyllow had one of her* Awakend Elk* show us to a tunnel that had been dug by an umber hulk. Nocreth found trailsign indicating that the deurgar that we hunt went down this tunnel. We have headed down in pursuit. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[33]]. Dani wakes up male.
Moving into the 6th level of Undermountain, we find the umber hulk tunnel leads into a series of passages and chambers built by the Melairkyn dwarves as a temple to Dumathoin. Aidan uses locate object to confirm that the dagger of blindsight and the deurgar thieves. A hard fought, pitched battle begins against a dozen deurgar and several cloakers, but in the end the party evicts them from the High Temple, recovering Azrock's dagger and a small fortune in valuables the dark dwarves had pillaged from this once great dwarven stronghold.

The band continues to clear the lost level of Undermountain, destroying the duergar raiding band wherever they are found. After breaking down two ancient helmed horrors and exploring the tomb of the ancient Melayrkin King (Melair) the crew recovers the King's corpse (and his ensorcelled sentinel shield), bearing him to the doors of the Vault to open it to us. Inside is just an oracle and another one of Halaster's teleportation arches. We return the King to his resting place and close the secret doors behind us. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[53]]. Dani wakes up female.
The crew explores the last of the lost level, with a tense fight against 4 umber hulks and three minotaurs that saw Nocreth seconds away from death. Danni also flirted with her demise when a behir struck her with its lightning breath TWICE. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[53]]. Dani wakes up female.

The party explores Maggdoth's Castle and the level surrounding it. We encounter some stone giants, one of which Dani arm wrestles and wins.
The party finishes exploring Maddgoth's castle and moves on to the Slitherswamp
Upon entering the Slitherswamp, D-Con blunders right into a bullywug patrol, which leads to a running fight spread across the caverns, including bullywug, giant toads, giant frogs, carrion crawlers Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[94]]. Dani wakes up female.
Adventure Logsheet
Finished off the bullywug onslaught, including a handful of giant crocodiles.
Beyond the temple complex is a series of caves inhabited by three naga, one a dead bone naga and two spirit naga. One of the spirit naga has a Rod of Rulership with which they have charmed a number of weak-willed creaures like several trolls and minotaurs.
Pursuing the fight into the tunnels beyond the Yuan-ti den. Fighting through the fumes of a cloudkill, Dani dives into a pool where Aidan in Earth Elemental form is fighting what he says is a "giant squid." The adveresary is in actuality an aboleth, which grapples Dani and infects her with it's disease before they cut it down. Destroying the aboleth, two chulls, and a handful of skum, Dani moves out of the foul pond and up to support Aidan in facing minotaur skeletons and zombie clots. Nocreth and Tigre moved down a separate passage, while Geran was stranded behind the cloud. Aboleth disease: After 1 minute, the diseased creature's skin becomes translucent and slimy, the creature can't regain hit points unless it is underwater, and the disease can be removed only by heal or another disease-curing spell of 6th level or higher. When the creature is outside a body of water, it takes 6 (1d12) acid damage every 10 minutes unless moisture is applied to the skin before 10 minutes have passed.
Adventure Logsheet
Dani, infected with the cursed disease of an aboleth, is taken back from the Slitherswamp to visit Wyllow the archdruid in Level 5: the Wyllowwood. Wyllow casts Heal to remove the aboleth's skin disease from Dani in exchange for 1,600 gold total, 800 of it donated by other party members. Dani rendered her payment with 75 10gp gems: 60 blue quartz chunks, 6 banded agate, and 9 moss agates. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[87]]. Dani wakes up female.
Opening the door into the halls of Dweomercore, we meet the headmaster's bouncers, summoned Vrocks, Cannaloths, and a Nycaloth.
The Dean of the Dweomercore school sets a bargain with Geran. If we exterminate a handful of barbed and bone devils, he will show us the way through the school to the next level. These devils are comparatively easy when considered against dealing with that disembodied arm and it's high level magic. It's nice moving through a level so quickly. D-con "gets an inkling" that the Xunderbrok room is on this floor. But come on, the Melairkin were dwarves. They never hide just one thing.
Adventure Logsheet
We finished off the Nycaloths guarding the exit to the 10th level, but not before Nocreth disappears in a cloud of smoke. I don't know if he was banished or summoned to some other duty, but I was really counting on him to watch my back. (Dan M. left the campaign.)* As we entered the level now called Murial's Gaunlet, we found hallways of broken mirrors guarded by a drow skeleton that had lost it's arcance ability, but was still attempting to use a wand of the warmage. Long deceased adventurer or wayward student of the arcane arts wandered down from the magister's school? we couldn't tell... Then around the next corner, we found a temple to the Spider Queen guarded by three banshees. Undead banshees dropped most of our group with their screams, but the righteous fury of Ellistraee kept me on my feet until the last of them withered under arrow shots and eldritch blasts. I don't think I'll hear right for weeks. Geran and Aidan discovered two deceased adventurers here and returned them to life. It's amazing they made it all the way down here equipped as they are. Takes a lot of luck to survive using rough leather armor and mass produced, market-grade weapons. Servicable for hunting your typical humanoid bounties or working caravan guard duty, yeah, but for delving into somewhere like Undermountain? Insanity.

We destroyed a laboratory built by the scorpion man, Muiral, saving the adventurers trapped there for his experiments. We also looted an ancient dining hall and found the scorpion man's stash of extra-spell components. It is insane that this feels normal.
We continue to explore the level known as Murial's Gauntlet. There is a drow temple here, complete with a stone golem effigy of the Spider Queen that we destroyed. The adamantine pick I took from that deurgar several levels above has come in handy for destroying these malevolent statues. There are, however, two blessed rooms sanctified to Ellistraee. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[63]]. Dani wakes up female.
Pressing the attack against House Aryvundar's defenses in the courtyard of Murial's gauntlet, we strip the dead of their equipment and retreat to rest in the Yawning Portal. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[14]]. Dani wakes up male.
Adventure Logsheet
Hand-to-hand combat in the narrow hallways of Muiral's Gauntlet continues. Destroyed a handful of retriever demons, a couple drow, and several demons, including a Marilith. House Ayruvandar has far greater numbers of combatants than we'd been lead to expect.

Traded an unneeded sentinel shield to Eskane Balezta, a Bounty Hunter and sharpshooter with a hand crossbow. These gloves will help me become almost as effective as Tigre at disarming locks, but they will make it virtually impossible for him to fail doing so.
Through the next doors, the crew discovered a shrine to Eilistraee and Danifae spent a few moments in prayer. Placing a sword in the statue's hand, it began to dance, then pointed to the East by southeast. Dani, D-con, and Aidan were given a minor charm from the statue, the ability to cast bless (1st level) once. Setting our path in that SxSE direction, we began to clear rooms. In a Ballroom, they encountered two mutated drow, science experiments crossed with giant spiders. Hideous things that could turn to vapor, but died easily enough. The next hallway led to an encounter with four drow guards, one of which, Sornssnozz, turned on his compatriots, telling us he was a plant by House Freth. He also warned us of an ambush by three phase spiders in that same room, so he's already proved valuable. Sorn is working with a House Freth Assassin and has agreed to introduce us so we can ally together to wipe out the rest of House Aryuvndar on this floor... include Matron Mother Aryuvndar. He says she has an enormous number of demons and elites guarding her. It is sure to be a challenge. But first he showed us into a very nice guest quarters and dining room that had clean, working plumbing. I have missed certain creature comforts from Waterdeep while stalking these hallways. D-con, Geran, and Danifae are already hatching a scheme to turn these guest quarters into our forward operating base for the rest of our delving into Undermountain.
Adventure Logsheet
The House Freth infiltration team of Sornozz and Xaraann A'Daragon brief us on the presence of a fight club down the hallway. It is supposed to be a location for the honorable practive and drill of combat techniques, but Drinrith —Matron Auvryndar's niece—is haughtily beating down weakened males for her own sport. Xaraann and Danifae approach to engage Drinrith in a duel, but the party fails to stick to the plan, dropping Hypnotic pattern and a fireball on us. Xarraan is livid, as he should be, and Aidan expends some rapidly depleting healing to bring the Freth agent back to fighting shape and to placate his ire. In the next room, we discover an interrogation chamber, where Drinrith's consort and a pair of drow elites are torturing Tazirahc Oussar, a Freth conspiritor. We dispatch the elites, but D-con takes Kereth the warlock into custody, despite Dani's protestations. Discovered a scroll of hold person in the servants' quarters on that hallway.
The party continues to wage war on the scores of House Auvryndar forces in the Hall of the Dark Seldarine. In the chaos, one of the drow guarding their prisoners, a band of halfling entertainers called The Sing-Alongs, enters the cage and cuts down a hapless halfing. Aidan wildshapes into the form of an air elemental to cover the distance and save his hin cousins. We down the last half dozen of their troglodyte brutes, as well as eliminating over a dozen drow warriors, and several pair of Retriever fiend constructs. Many of these are dropped by waves of missiles from Geran's swift quiver, Tigre's precise sneak attacks, and Zayis' barrage of eldritch blasts. The best of the results, though is one of Vlonwelv's youngest daughters, a priestess of the Spider Queen, falling to a combination of Dani's greataxe and D-con's Steel Wind Strike. The party is still combat effective, but it is beginning to look like we will not have enough in the tank to complete this task in this one day.
Combat in the Hall of the Dark Seldarine resumes, with Aidan and Dani holding back the retrievers and giant Lizard mounts while D-con temporarily disappears. After he joined us again, we finished off the last combatants in this room, including a pair of drow elites, a yochlol, and two more retrievers guarding the doors to the south. (Seriously, Gary. I know we're a very strong party but this is a bit much.) Aidan dashes back to the prisoners' cage where one of the halfing entertainers has been struck down by it's drow guard. The blessing of the Earthmother grants him the ability to revivfy this poor halfing and give her a second chance at life. In the next vestibule, we discover another pair of retrievers, another priestess, more elites and a mage. The priestess casts silence in the doorway to foil attempts at counterspelling, but Dani throws the last of her necklace of fireballs into the room, which but one or two of the dozen occupants were able to avoid the full brunt. The priestess' concentration falters and we push in to clear this up. It takes using about half of our healing potion stores, Dani's Righteous Rage to keeep her fighting when she should've dropped, and every spell the casters had available to finish this room. D-con, Aidan and Dani are all on the verge of collapse from their wounds. Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[37]]. Dani wakes up male.
Adventure Logsheet
Exploring caverns to attempt an entry from behind the temple of the Spider Queen, we find a few outlying sentriesand a dozen ghouls that must be put down. Discovering the last handful of Muirial's troglodyte mercenaries, Dani deceives them into responding to a hoax threat, clearing them from our path. Several magical traps were somehow too difficult to avoid, taking out Aidan's earth elemental wildshapes and a good chunk of Dani's health. We opened a secret door into the temple and opened combat with a moderate fireball (3 remaining beads for 5th level), but will have to contend with silences, cloudkills and a number of other unknown challenges as we attempt to assassinate the matron mother of house Ayrvrundar. Dani donated her gem-encrusted bowl so that Aidan could cast Heroes' Feast.
Defeating that last remaining guards, we engaged the matron mother of House Arvryandar... but must continue to press the fight if she is to be ended.

Orbiting high above Toril is Stardock, a hollowed-out asteroid used by the Githyanki as a fortress and connected to the Crystal Labyrinth in Undermountain via a magical gate. The ruler of Stardock is a githyanki named Commander Urlon. Urlon hired a 30 or so of us to provide extra security for a conclave he was sponsoring. It was quiet, easy money for a few days before a massive illithid force attacked. I took off with one set of five while D-con took another. I don't know where Geran, Aidan and Tigre were. We exploded illithid boreworm attack vessels, prevented an illithid plot to turn Ashtyrranthor, an adult red dragon, against us, and retrieved the Forgotten Phoenix, a skiff destroyed by an astral deadnaught warped by a portal from the Far Realm. A githyanki traitor called Kaaltav attempted to ambush us, but we slew the former githyanki supreme commander. After a short breather, we regrouped to destroy the illithid nautiloid a spacefaring vessel large than anything I've experienced, doing crippling damage by boarding it and ripping it apart from within. the skiff we used to board the massive ship was destroyed by missile fire, but we were saved from the ship's implosion and the cold of space by a cleverly employed cube of force by the spacer wizard that was on our security detail. It paid well. I'll give them that. Ganied a Potion of Greater Healing

Dani rejoined the crew to delve into Shadowdusk Hold. We cut up some grell and nothics, learned about how the Shadowdusks used to be an important Waterdhavian family, and how most of them seem to be Far Realm-twisted insane mages. We've cleared the first floor of Shadowdusk Hold of aggressive creatures and are proceeding to the second floor.
Level 22: Shadowdusk Hold, 2nd tier found a potion of invisibility, scroll of flesh-to-stone
Level 22: Shadowdusk Hold, Sublevel two. D-con and Zayeus stay in the Study to continue searching through the books. Dani, Geran, Tigre, and Orpollo continue to clear the level. In the remaining unexplored room, we are ambushed by a half dozen death slaadi but dispatch them, though we take some wounds. Proceeding to Sublevel three, we encounter a gargantua set as a guard, but Geran talks our way past. Exploring the western wing of this level, we destroy a balhannoth and find a fine tapestry of long-ago Waterdeep, which Dani chooses to keep for her rooms at The Yawning Portal. At the end of the hall, we discover a room with 4 pillars that radiate magic from runes of abjuration. Amongst the pillars is a blue dracolich that strikes Dani repeatedly with lightning breath while Geran and Orpollo try to puzzle out why most of our attacks seem to be ineffective against the undead terror. Orpollo works out that the runes are absorbing all but the strongest strikes from Tigre and we set to destroying the pillars in moments. Though Dani continues to take injuries from the dracolich, it is shattered eventually... though we worry it will reanimate in a few days. The room the darcolich guarded was the Shadowdusk family vault and it holds thousands of coins and several precious gems. Found Potion of Cloud Giant Strength

Level 22: Shadowdusk Hold, Sublevel 3. With the dracolich felled and the vault looted, the crew patches Dani up so we can try to locate and secure the dracolich's spirit gem to prevent it being recreated. In a room with a strange statue that morphed it's appearance, we fought two of the Shadowdusk family: a female who'd turned herself into a death knight and a male archmage who had been turned insectoid by the effects of the Far Realm. They had a slaad, an alpha grick, and some Far Realm creatures summoned to make the room more formidable. In the fight against the greater star spawn emissary, Dani relied on her Rage Beyond Death ability for the first time. With half the party seriously wounded, D-con and Geran cast Invisibility on us so we could retreat, take the portal network back to The Yawning Portal adn Waterdeep, and rest before we attempt another attack against the ignoble House of Shadowdusk and their Far Realm allies. Gained potion of healing Long Rest; Blessing of Corellon d100 = [[71]]. Dani wakes up female.

While in the Yawning Portal, I had a bottle of wine with Anorak Fireweaver, a Hobgoblin agent of the Lord's Alliance. He and D-Con were talking about evocation theory — you know how those finger-wiggling wizards get when they start showing off their brains—and Anorak showed us this shield that can reflect magic like my Mantle. Said he found it in a Necromancer's Spire near old Zhentil Keep. I figure that would look a lot better over the hearth in my room than that Staff of Power I took off that dead Shadowdusk insect wizard, so I made a sweet trade. Put it up next to that floating Dwarven keg lid shield I got a few months back.
Level 22: Shadowdusk Hold, Sublevel 3. Rooms 30b, 31a, 31b. Toe-to-toe combat to destroy 4 death slaadi, 4 gibbering mouthers, 4 star spawn grue, 2 star spawn manglers, 2 eldritch horror hatchlings, and a will o' wisp.

Dani is subjected to the maddening effects of the Far Realm breach. She gains a from of indefinte madness: "I can't take anything seriously. The more serious the situation, the funnier I find it." Orpollo casts greater restoration on Dani and she gives her two of her misshapen diamonds to replace the diamond dust. (-200gp) In the next rooms, we face off with the death knight Zalthar Shadowdusk and destroy him utterly. He guards a room with an immense black obelisk within. When we topple the obelisk, we find a small yellow frog trapped within. It speaks to Dani telepathically, saying it's name is Tezca-Zyanya. It does not remember how it came to be trapped in here and hitches a ride on Dani's shoulder while it seeks a way out of Undermountain.
Proceeding down to the 23rd level of Undermountain, the crew enters the Mad Wizard's Lair. After navigating a few magic traps, they come face to face with Arcturia, the lich and Halaster's apprentice of transmutation magic. She is frightening to look at, but D-Con struck her with a meteor swarm and Geran followed it with a firestorm, destroying her before she could cast anything.
