Notes:

The exterior of this rosewood sword mount is engraved with a pastoral forest scene replete with frolicking cats and leaping salmon. A red and white prayer cord (shimenawa) is tightly wound and knotted around where both halves enjoin. Loosening the cord and unsheathing the katana within causes the blade to loudly yowl and keen, before the sound fades away together with the last vestiges of its magic. When you grasp this walking cane and use a bonus action to speak the command word, it transforms into an ordinary longsword and ceases to be magical. ** Guardian:** This item has the guardian minor property from p. 148 of the Dungeon Master’s Guide (DMG). So long as the shimenawa is attached, and the knot unbroken, the item warns its bearer of impending threats through a series of meows, purrs, and hisses that only the bearer can hear, granting a +2 bonus to initiative if the bearer isn’t incapacitated. (Note that should the item become non-magical, this property is lost).
