Ihr Vater hingegen war ein Ork – ein brutaler Krieger eines Wanderstamms, dessen Name längst in Vergessenheit geraten ist. Shadre war das ungewollte Ergebnis einer Begegnung zwischen den beiden, die von Alkohol und Konflikt geprägt war. Als Shadres Mutter bemerkte, dass sie schwanger war, stieß sie das Kind von sich. In ihrer Kultur galten Schwäche und Makel als verachtenswert, und Shadre war für sie ein Symbol von beidem. Nach der Geburt trug die Goliath-Frau das Kind nach Bryn Shander und ließ es vor dem Tempel der Triade zurück. Die Priester der Triade – Diener von Torm, Tyr und Ilmater – fanden das Kind kurz vor Einbruch eines Schneesturms. Pater Ameryck, der Älteste der Priester, nahm Shadre auf und zog sie wie seine eigene Tochter groß. Er erzählte ihr nichts von ihrer Herkunft, sondern lehrte sie die Prinzipien der Triade: Gerechtigkeit, Mitgefühl und die Kraft, Leid zu ertragen. Shadre fand besonders zu Ilmater, dem Gott des Leidens und der Erlösung, eine starke Verbindung. Shadre wuchs im Tempel auf, doch sie war nie wie die anderen Kinder.
